Location: Biu LGA, Borno State (Mbulamel, Madiya, Dugja Bayan Tasha, Hizhi Gwaram, Barki, Tum, Yoksa & Pompomare Schools)
ROLE:
The volunteer Teachers has responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of Teaching Methodology and activities at the camp/community level. The Volunteer Teachers will be responsible for implementing Teaching and Building of Out of School Pupils within Communities and also Facilitate Pupils Enrolments into Formal Schools.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Will Represent SCI in the Field/Communities, with professionalism, honesty and commitment.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should Be Conversant with the Rudiments of Teaching.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Will Implement Program Objectives, Strategies and Activities in agreement with Basic Education Standards.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Will Identify Pupils with Slow learning abilities and follow-up for improvements.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should be able to Monitor Pupils and be able to contact Parents/Guardian of Pupils to enlighten them on ways forward i.e. Pupils with Special Needs.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should be able to observe Pupils and report if there is a child Protection Issues or Problems.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should be able to Facilitate implementation and mobilization strategy for community structures for target beneficiaries i.e. out of School Children within the Implementing communities.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Mobilize community structures whenever it is required.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Will Participate in training courses and meetings for the community structures and also monitor and evaluate the pupils for better Performance of the Pupils.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher gives information to the beneficiaries on the services provided by SCI.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should Comply with all relevant save the children policies and procedures with respect to Education, Child Protection, health, safety and other relevant policies in respect to Children.
- The Potential Volunteer Teacher Should be able to Perform any other duties that will be assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Essential
- The applicants MUST be a resident from that particular Community/location of choice.
- Good communication skills with fluency in spoken English and local language (Bura/Pabur & Hausa) and also good writing Skills.
- Degree in Education/ minimum of NCE equivalent with preferably Not less than 1-year work experience in teaching or Volunteering as a community teacher.
- A person who has a good reputation in the community.
- A good knowledge of his/her subject.
- Ability to make good Lesson Plan and Lesson Notes.
- Ability to Create Positive Classroom Climate.
- Knowledge of Positive Discipline.
- Knowledge of Teaching methodologies.
- Knowledge of good Classroom Management.
- Ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise at any given time.
- Strong Compassion for Teaching, ability to initiate and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Positive attitude towards Community Development and Teaching with emphasis on the ability to develop self, be innovative to approaches and problem solving skills.
- Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy
Desirable
- Knowledge of English and local language.
- Qualified female teachers are encouraged to apply.
- Experience and skills in Classroom management.
- Experience in Lesson Planning.
- Understanding of teaching Methodologies.
- Experience in working with out of School Children.
