GOETHE INSTITUT DREAMING NEW WORLDS PROGRAM 2024 FOR NIGERIAN CREATIVE TECHNOLOGISTS.
Applications are now open for the 2024 Goethe Institut Dreaming New Worlds Program. For the second edition of the program, Goethe Institut invites artists to explore the concept of Collective Illusions. African culture is an embodied tradition contextualized and passed down through generations through mediums such as stories, music, and proverbs. They embody the collective wisdom and reflect the values and experiences of the community.
Goethe invites multidisciplinary artists, curators, and historians working across various media, including but not limited to visual art, film, writing, performance, and architecture. to explore the means for this contextualization, the contexts and propose work that help build new contexts for the country.
Eligibility Requirements
- Creative technologists must be residents of Nigeria and must be able to travel to Lagos.
- Adequate proof of a consistent practice over 3-5 years, or equivalent.
- Applicants must be available to commit to create work with their collective from July – November 2024

Program Goals
- Capacity building: The program through workshops, talks, lectures, and screenings open to the participants and public, promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to research, critical thought, and artistic outcomes to inspire positive action and new futures for the country.
- Showcasing Innovation: Through a supported exhibition, the program serves as a platform to present these ideas and works not typical to the mainstream to be engaged with healthy criticism. The program would also serve as a platform to showcase these creatives to relevant platforms where they can further hone and develop their skill sets.
- Community Engagement: The program aims to bring technological innovation closer to young people through screenings, workshops, talks, lectures, and exhibitions. The participants create works in response, and to benefit our society. The public is invited to give feedback on the work and its aims.
Benefits
- Fifteen artists and scientists will be invited to participate in a one-week Ideathon, where they will form collectives and collaborate to align their practices and ideas with the curatorial vision.
- Three collectives will be awarded a production grant of NGN 2,500,000 each, and will participate in a group exhibition in November 2024, as a part of the Dreaming New Worlds program.
- The Program awards production and exhibition grants of up to NGN 2,500,000 to three collectives created at a two week-long ideathon. The domains of the program are African Heritage, Ecologies, Social Equity, Mediums & Practices, Narratives, Climate & Urban development.
