The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Basic Function

  • The Office Management Assistant serves as the principal administrative support person for Management and reports directly to the Management Officer, operating independently to ensure that administrative functions are performed effectively, efficiently, and in a manner that promotes harmony and problem-solving, ensuring other staff members may be more effective.
  • The Management section provides the full range of International Cooperative Administrative Support Services (ICASS) to the over 85 USDH, 350 Locally Employed (LE) staff representing five US Federal Agencies.
  • The Office Management Assistant is the primary contact person responsible for the section’s customer service to internal and external clients.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements
Experience:

  • Minimum of (5) five years of office administration and management experience is required.

Job Knowledge:
The following are required:

  • Knowledge of organizational hierarchy and structure and the roles and responsibilities of key personnel or offices supporting the organizations goals and objectives, in order to quickly know who to contact for any given issue.
  • Knowledge of key issues within the organization and between the organization and outside entities, including researching information on web sites, social media and/or publications, in order to perform such tasks as examining reports or documents for items of interest to the organization and maintaining files.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access or SharePoint, in order to perform tasks assigned and troubleshoot information technology issues.
  • Knowledge of the use of and ability to troubleshoot standard office equipment including copiers, fax, multi-line telephone systems, cellular or smartphones, tablet or laptop computers and digital senders and scanners.
  • Knowledge of all counterparts in the 10-15 Consulates in the Diplomatic community in Lagos
  • Knowledge of local culture, business and governmental environment.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School (High School) is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Applicants must specify level of proficiency in the language(s) listed.

Language:

  • Fluency in speaking / reading / writing of English is required. Fluency in any of the local languages is required.

  • Skill at organizing multiple and varied tasks into an achievable system quickly and accurately with minimal supervision in order to complete duties on time.
  • Skill in time management and prioritization of work and tight deadlines, in order to perform assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate a strong command of the English language to include grammar, spelling and punctuation. Must consistently meet a high standard for English, both written (overall structure as well as grammar, spelling and punctuation) and spoken (overall structure as well as delivery, clarity and conciseness).
  • Keyboard / typing skills with speed of least 25 words per minute but highly accurate.

Agency Benefits:

  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
