We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer
Location: Mowe, Ogun

Directly Reports to: General Manager, Operations
Internal Interactions: Production Unit Members,Mid-Level Managers, Supervisors of Contract Workers
External Interactions: Vendors,Regulatory Bodies, External Inspectors/Consultant.
Job Purpose
- The HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies at the aluminium and copper recycling plant.
- The role involves implementing and monitoring safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the plant’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and conduct health and safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all employees.
- Ensure compliance with local and international health and safety regulations.
Environmental Management:
- Monitor and enforce environmental compliance, including waste management, pollution control, and recycling practices.
- Ensure the plant adheres to environmental laws, standards, and permits.
- Work with operations to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct regular environmental impact assessments and recommend improvements.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and update emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct emergency drills and simulations to ensure preparedness among employees.
- Act as the point of contact for external agencies during emergencies, audits, and inspections.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and training activities.
- Prepare and submit periodic HSE performance reports to management.
- Ensure documentation aligns with regulatory requirements and company standards.
Continuous Improvement:
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve HSE performance and implement best practices.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate HSE considerations into operational processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications:
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (or equivalent).
- ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification knowledge is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing or recycling environment.
- Familiarity with aluminium and copper processing operations is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of local and international HSE regulations and standards.
- Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HSE management software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and engage employees.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
